会場には川崎市国際交流協会理事長の迎スミ子さんが来られていて、平和の活動をされている女性・岩本さんを紹介して下さいました。 迎さんとは約２０年前に姉妹都市・ボルチモア市の先生達との懇談会でボランティア通訳をした時初めてお会いしました。 それから１０数年が経ち、川崎市国際交流協会の理事長に就任されてから久しぶりに再会しました。
来賓は市会議員、小学生の代表と先生、平和の活動家、東京大学教授など４０名位でした。
主催者の福田市長は子供たちにも分かる様な言葉であいさつされました。 「今、日本は戦争が無くて平和だけど海外では戦争で泣いている人が沢山います。 どうして戦争するのだろうか？ 平和って何だろうか？」 東大の先生は常設展示の配置に心を配った話などされました。
参加者代表によるテープカットの儀式が行われました。
内覧会では１階から２階までの展示を見て回りました。 私は２３年前の平和館オープニングセレモニーにも出席していました。 「展示物はあまり変わり映えしていない！」と思いましたが、日本は６０年以上戦争をしていないので戦争グッズは増えなくても当たり前なのです。 平和が続くと当たり前になり、変化を求めたくなります。 テレビで知っていると思いますが、一度平和が崩れると取り戻すのは至難の業です。
帰りぎわに姉妹都市の富川（プチョン）美術市民交流で韓国へ行った時、韓国語の通訳をして下さった小田切さんから「ずいぶん長くコアラを頑張っていますね！」と声を掛けて頂いた。 「はい、もう１８年になりました。 コアラ会員から福田さんに会うなら、子育て支援を頼んできてね～と言われたのですが敷居が高くて市長に声を掛けられませんでした。」と話していると市長が来られた。 「市長はざっくばらんで良い人。 市民の声を聴きたがっているからチャンス。行け！」と背中を押してもらった。 コアラの説明をしてチラシを渡し、強い握手をして貰った。 あーあ、興奮した～
勇気が湧いてきたので中原区長の板橋さんにも声を掛けた。「コアラは福祉パルなかはらを借りて８年になりますが毎月部屋の予約を申し込まなければなりません。 係の人は大変です。 実績があるのですから半年とか、せめて３か月でもいいから予約なしで部屋を貸してもらえないのでしょうか？」とお願いした。 「区役所の管轄ではないので今は返事できませんが福祉パルの方にかけあってみます。」との返事を貰った。
中原区長さんには昨年NGOあしたの会の長村会長と「あしたの会１０周年記念誌」と共に「コアラ１０周年記念誌」を届けていたので顔見知りではあったがお願い事は今回が初めてだった。
今から３２年前に川崎市は「核兵器廃絶平和都市宣言」をした珍しい市です。 知っていますか？
「真の恒久平和と安全を実現する事は 人類共通の念願である。 しかるに 核軍備の拡張は依 然として行われ、人類の生存に深刻な脅威を与えている。 我が国は世界唯一の被爆国として被爆の恐ろしさ、被爆者の苦しみを声を大にして全世界の人々に訴え、再びこの地球上に広島、長崎の、あの惨禍を繰り返させてはならない。 この事は人類が遵守しなければならない普遍的な理念であり、我われが子孫に残す唯一の遺産である。」
「川崎市は我が国の非核三原則が完全に実施されることを願い、すべての核保有国に対し、核兵器の廃絶と軍縮を求め 国際社会の連帯と民主主義の原点に立って、核兵器廃絶の世論を喚起する為、個々に核兵器廃絶平和都市となる事を宣言する。」
コアラに来ている０才～３歳までの男の子達が１５年後、戦争に駆り出されることが無い、日本である様に皆で世間の変化を見守りましょう。
戦後、米陸軍出版センターだったところを川崎市に返還され、平和館、平和公園、住吉高校が出来ました。 かなり広い場所ですね。
コアラのイベントとして一度、皆で平和館見学をして平和公園でピクニックをしませんか？
I received a letter of invitation on Kawasaki Peace Museum Renewal Opening ceremony from the Kawasaki Mayer Mr. Norihiko Fukuda. I attended the ceremony as a president of "International Parents and Infants Cross Cultural Group "KOALA" on March 23.
I encountered Ms. Sumiko Mukai, a director of the Kawasaki International Association at the party and was introduced Ms. Iwamoto, a Peace Activist.
I first met Ms. Mukai when I acted as volunteer interpreter at the meeting with teachers from Baltimore city (Kawasaki sister city) 20 years ago. After a lapse of ten years, I met her again when she was inaugurated as a director of the Kawasaki International Association.
The guests were about 40 people of the City Councilors, the pupils' delegation, the Peace Activists and the Tokyo University Professor.
A Mayor Fukuda gave greetings to the guests and children. "There is no war in Japan now but there are a lot of crying people by a war in the foreign countries. Why do people fight? What is a peace?
Professor of Tokyo University explained about the distribution of the display.
A representative of guests had done the tape cut ritual.
A guide took us on a tour of the display from the first floor to second floor. That reminds me that I was invited its opening ceremony 23 years ago. I thought the exhibits haven't changed. It is true that Japan has not been war for more than 60 years so that the war related goods have not been increasing.
People are prone to look for changes after a peace last long. As you know the fact by the TV, to rebuild a peaceful world would be tough once a peace collapsed.
When I went to Puchon city, Korea (Kawasaki sister city), I met Mr. Odagiri who interpreted to us Korean. He called me and said "Yonezawa san, you've been worked hard to organize Koala for a long time!" "Yes, it's been18 years. Koala member asked me to say to Mr. Fukuda about the childcare supporting but I missed to offer him." He said "A mayor is candid and a nice person. He is eager to hear the voice of the citizens." Here comes a mayor. "Go for it. Chance!!"
I finally explained about Koala activity and handed him the Koala leaflet. He game me his hand to shake. Oh, I was nervous.
I spoke to Mr. Itabashi, the head of Nakahara Ward and said, "Koala has been used the room in Fukushi pal Nakahara for 8 years, though a person in charge has to reserve the room every month by phone. Can we use the room without reservation for six months or 3 months?" He said "Fukushi pal is not Kuyakusho territory but I negotiate with Mr. Aoki."
I was an acquaintance with him. Last year, NGO Ashita no kai, a president Mr. Osamura introduced him to me. I gave the booklet "Koala 10th anniversary". He knew Koala.
Kawasaki city had done "Declaration for Peace and the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons" 32 years ago from now. Do you know this?
"It is the common desire of mankind to bring about a genuine and permanent state of peace and security in the world. However, nuclear arms expansion is continuing and poses a serious threat to the very existence of the human race. Japan, as the only country to have suffered a nuclear attack, must communicate loudly to the people of the world the horror of the atomic bomb and the agony of its victims, and must never allow the disasters of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to be inflicted again on the earth. This is a universal ideology that mankind must observe and is the only bequest we can leave future generations."
"To ensure adherence to Japan's Three Non-nuclear Principles, to achieve disarmament involving the abolition of nuclear weapons by the Nuclear Powers, and to arouse public opinion to strive for the eradication of nuclear weapons on the basis of international solidarity and democratic principles, the City of Kawasaki hereby declares itself a city devoted to peace and the abolition of nuclear weapons."
We have to keep watching the world that Koala children ranging in age from 0 to 3 will not join the fight after 15 years.
After World War 2, the site of the American Military Publishing Center was returned to Kawasaki city and those huge spaces were made into the Peace museum, Peace Park and Sumiyosi High school.
Shall we go see the Peace Museum and play at the Peace Park, as a Koala event some day?
